Broad Track Record and Ability to Get Things Done
01
REASON 01
When it comes to producing manuals for mechanical products, we excel thanks to our vast expertise and extensive production track record.
At Honyaku Shuppan-sha, all our employees possess Technical Communication Proficiency Test (a manual-related proficiency examination run by the Japan Technical Communicators Association) certification, undertaking their work with a high level of knowledge and skills. Furthermore, our employees with automobile mechanic certification engage in technical writing operations. We have a long history of producing technical documents such as instruction manuals and maintenance manuals for machinery and equipment, with a particular focus on fields such as defense, aviation and aerospace, as well as automobiles, construction machinery, electrical engineering, electronics, and telecommunications. With our ability to get things done and our track record of success, we tackle our clients’ issues by helping in every step of the production process, from designing the manual right through to its production, distribution, maintenance, assessment, and after-sales follow-up.
High Quality, Cost-effective, Short Delivery
02
REASON 02

By combining the latest technologies such as Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT), Machine Translation (MT) engines, Quality Assurance (QA) tools, and automation tools to suit the needs of our clients, we deliver a translation service that boasts the very best QCD (quality, cost, delivery).
Expertise of Specifications and Records of Success
03
REASON 03
We have built an extensive track record in the field of defense documentation thanks to our strong understanding of the specifications and our wealth of production expertise.
Honyaku Shuppan-sha began life translating and editing information about aircraft imported from the United States for manuals to be used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. We were quick to acquire the relevant United States Military Standard to undertake these projects, and ultimately this experience, which we have leveraged in producing manuals, has paved the way for the top-class service we offer today. Since then we have developed an even greater understanding of the necessary specifications of each document through producing numerous technical documents for defense equipment of the Japan Ministry of Defense and the Japan Self-Defense Force, technical documents for equipment in the fields of aviation, aerospace, electrical engineering, electronics, and telecommunications, as well as as-built documents for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Our strengths in the defense industry and aviation/aerospace fields lie in our rich experience and production track record, stretching over 65 years with an unparalleled knowledge of what is required in these sectors. We have also complied with S1000D, an international specification for the production of technical publications, since 2013.
Compliance with Security Standards
04
REASON 04
We have a history of complying with various information security standards such as ITAR, NIST SP 800, and those of the Ministry of Defense.
Given that our job is to handle technical documents for the Japan Ministry of Defense and the Japan Self-Defense Force, we were quick to establish and operate a system that complies with the security requirements of the Japan Ministry of Defense. We have also established a system that enables us to handle confidential information such as the design-related information of products made by private enterprises. Also, in recent years, even before the Japan Ministry of Defense began applying NIST SP 800-171 (a security standard outlined by a US government agency), we formulated company rules based on this standard and put them into operation, ensuring that we continue to comply with the latest requirements. We also comply with the United States’ International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), taking various measures in the three areas of Technical Safeguards, Physical Safeguards, and Personnel Safeguards. Each and every one of our team is strongly committed to preventing security incidents, detecting information leakage, and taking the right actions at the right time.
