Over the years, we have always committed ourselves to meeting the needs of our clients, from government agencies to companies from different industry sectors. We work in a wide range of areas, including development, production, operation and management, but we specialize in manuals in particular, such as owner's handbooks (user's manuals), service manuals, flight manuals, maintenance manuals and technical orders.
We also handle many standards, specifications, product catalogs, technical materials, contracts, minutes, letters and other business documents. In recent years, more and more clients turn to us for the translation of websites and e-Learning materials.

Translation for a document production environment
Honyaku Shuppan-sha is a manual and document creation specialist; we work in every stage of document production. We are involved from zero to delivery of printed and bound copies or electronic media. As a document one-stop shop, we look after the entire process of document production whether printed or electronic. This means that translation can be seamlessly linked with layout and editing processes, and produced with additional inputs from technical writers and engineers. This unique environment ensures that we deliver translations that are precisely targeted to the reader and for the purpose.
Working with a wealth of talents
We have over 1,000 external translators, proofreaders and native-speaking checkers registered with us. Many of them are not only talented linguists but are also specialists in knowledge or experience of working in relevant industries. Our coordinators select the best translators for each project depending on the language, content and subject field so we can handle even the most technical projects requiring highly specialized knowledge. Quality is our number-one priority; hence, we never deliver translations without checking. Each translation is reviewed or cross-checked by another pair of eyes, and formatted text goes through an additional check process after DTP work.
Using Trados
Honyaku Shuppan-sha was an early adopter of Trados, the de facto standard CAT (Computer Aided Translation) tool of the industry. Translation was once a highly skilled craft that could not be automated for volume production, but like any other products, quality, cost and delivery time are increasingly critical. Clients want their translations to be done faster and to be cost effective as well. Even though translation still defies full automation and requires much manpower, CAT systems complement human translators' skills. They provide a database system that stores a huge amount of information and processes it instantly to aid the translator's judgment and ability to express. The adoption of CAT is an increasing trend; with Trados very much the preferred choice of the industry, the demand will continue to rise.
